Advertisements now days can be viewed on shopping carts, airports, walkway, on the sides of buses, bus shelters, on telephone hold messages and in shopping malls. Advertising is the activity that provides advertisements of commercial products and services. Many advertisements are designed only for the purpose of enlarging “brand image”. Because of this, advertisements tend to embed factual information along with their influential message. Advertisers use major medium like television, radio, cinema, and magazines and often appoint an advertising agency on behalf of a company or other organization to carry the advertisements to the target audience.
While advertising can be seen as necessary for economic growth, it is growing at the expense of society. Unwanted Commercial Email and other spam have become so dominating that it has become a major irritant to users who use these services. Not just this, they become a financial burden on Internet service providers. Public space is also invaded by advertisements. Place such as schools when penetrated with advertisements to some extent is a form of child harm. Political parties, group unions, etc also advertise themselves.
Advertisement should be understood by everyone. Uniqueness doesn't mean that you get detached from the aim just to maintain the uniqueness. It should be so designed that even the few words read or heard, makes a complete sense and a soft feeling for the customer. It should appear realistic or adventurous or glamorous or spiritual as per the advertisement advertised for the specific purpose. Advertising should have a familiar look. It should definitely reflect a feeling of honor and importance to the customer. So that the customer's attention is only towards the advertisement and it is loved to watch or hear it again and again. Advertising should leave a refreshing impact on the mind so that it is remembered with due care for the product. It supports creating interest for the product advertised for.
Advertising is fruitful when it reaches the target audience. Advertisement should reflect the aim of advertising when advertised keeping into consideration the proper time, place and the requirement. It is very important that you put your advertising in the right place. With direct mail that means carefully selected mailing lists. With print and broadcast advertising, it means putting your messages where your prospects will most likely see or hear them.
To create an impact on potential customer and to ensure good returns, advertisers don’t hesitate on ad spends. They are assured that returns would be considerably good. It is not just cheaper but a very fast medium also. Youngsters spend a lot of time on line; therefore to get money, tricks like ‘click through’ on advertisements are uses. In some collages, companies give free Internet access. For any company; youngsters are a major market, therefore most feasible to create brand familiarity.

Top 10 things NOT to do when applying for a design job

Hello students and graduates! We get lots of job applications this time of year. In honor of graduation, I’ve crafted a little list of 10 things NOT to do when applying for a design job. This most likely applies to other design firms as well as Spoonbend. Enjoy!
1) DO Build a portfolio website. DO NOT email me a giant PDF. I don’t want to open it.
2) DO NOT have any broken links, “coming soon” or strange navigation.
3) DO NOT call. Mail me something cool! That way I can see your craft too.
4) DO NOT ask if “we’re hiring.” Offer to schedule a portfolio review appointment instead.
5) DO NOT pad your portfolio with freelance work just because it’s paid. It is OK just to have student work in your portfolio. Often little flyers and small freelance projects bring the quality of the portfolio down because the concept usually isn’t as thought out.
6) DO NOT feel entitled to anything. In this economy, be willing to take internships, production jobs, anything to get your foot in the door.
7) DO NOT leave your MySpace page with drunken party photos around for prospective employers to see. We will google you.
8 ) DO NOT send long rambling introductions by mail or email. State why you are right for the job, what you can offer the company, and what sets you apart from all of the other applicants in the sea.
9) DO NOT flip through your portfolio too quickly in an interview. Let your interviewer drive.
10) DO NOT have typos anywhere.
Brand Strategy: Where do I begin with branding? Design a logo?

A brand is much more than a logo. It is the roadmap your business uses to define relationships with all stakeholders in a business—from customers to vendors to investors and employees. It helps direct the graphic designer, advertising agency, marketing firm, and PR firm to spread your message with consistency and begin the process of building relationships.
At a very simple level, “branding” is about finding THE RIGHT IDEA, and then GETTING THE IDEA RIGHT.
A carefully considered and designed brand strategy will create value for all stakeholders.
To get the strategic positioning of a brand just right, a thorough discovery is required. A good brand consultant will strive to understand your company: its vision, products, personality and vibe — the intangibles are just as useful to us as the logistics of the business plan when it comes to developing a brand.
The main components of brand strategy include:
Research
Since a brand is about your relationships with all of your key stakeholders, it makes sense to talk to them. The research phase of branding is an in-depth study of how your stakeholders’ define their relationship with you. Through this research, a message can be crafted that speaks directly to the concerns of your stakeholders.
Message Development
Finding the right language to express the unique qualities of your brand helps to create compelling and meaningful consumer experiences. The process of developing architecture around language creates a guiding document that helps keep all brand stakeholders, and especially your customers, “on-message.”
Strategic Planning
A plan for integrating your brand is sometimes referred to as a “Brand Map.” This document identifies all points of contact your business has with it’s stakeholders and defines the best way to reach out to them with your messaging.
Brand Integration
Integration of your brand into every aspect of your business helps all key stakeholders learn to speak about your business the same way you understand it.

Advertising and Marketing Plans

Now, that title probably makes you think that we're going to talk about personals ads. In a way, we are. The step that comes after buying a pay-per-click ad, like Google Adwords and the like is figuring out what to do with your traffic once you've got it coming in. After all, it's costing you money, you might as well try to convert that into cash flow.
Next you need a well thought out marketing plan.
Your visitors are coming to your web site because they're looking for something. You even have some idea of what they're looking for; it's related to the search term and Pay Per Click ad you bought. However, just because they're searching for something doesn't mean that they're going to instantly decide that your offering is the best one available. They're going to hit that back button, check the search results against other companies, and try to find the offer that's best for them.
Just like you would, and, going back to our personals ads analogy, just like someone browsing personals ads.
Most likely, what happened is that you skimmed the offer, hit the back button, checked competing offers, and thought it over. Visitors to your web site are (more or less) like you. They're going to do the same thing. Now, that should put some context into the mix for you, and tells you something you should be doing. Comparison shop.
Take a look at other sites that come up on the AdWord you bought. What offers are there? How are they presented? How does yours stand out from the mix, in a positive manner? What sort of mood would a customer be in if they're hitting your site in a given search pattern? Will they be happy, sad, grieving, stressed, or passionate about something? Make sure your web site fits the mood of the visitor to make that positive impression, so they'll come back after doing the comparison shop.
What questions will be high in the minds of your visitors when they're hitting your site? What questions do they need to have answered in order to make a properly informed decision? What are the answers they need, and how can you present them? (Here's a bit of truth in marketing, and in sales - you need to answer those questions before you ask for the money.)
Ask yourself, or better yet, ask customers what information could you give a visitor that searched out your website that they'd be willing to sign up to get? Offer these visitors this information in exchange for their name and email address.
The easy way to do this is offer them a taste of the content they'll get for subscribing. You get their contact info, they get your information content (with offers for products they might be interested in), and it's a fair trade. This also establishes that you have a deep and abiding interest in the subject matter, are willing to share information on it, and are willing to be patient enough to let them make up their own minds. That shows that you respect them. Which is the foundation of any lasting, long term relationship, whether romantic, or commercial.
