npower is the biggest electricity supplier within the UK and produces and supplies both electricity and gas, along with related services to about 6.8 million customers in the country. It runs and manages a flexible number of power stations and is known as a market leader in renewable energy development because of its wind and hydro business renewables.

nPower UK also offer dual fuel tariffs, prepayment meter tariffs, their own tracker tariff, carbon monoxide alarms and hometeam services such as boiler installation, service and repair. They have been operating since October 1999 and launched in April 2000 where it took over former suppliers MEB, Calortex, MEB Powerline, National Power Energy Direct and Independent Energy, Yorkshire Electricity and Northern Electric and Gas, to become one big brand.

In the UK, npower produce renewable energy such as wind power through their 49 MB wind farm in Scotland. They have bids for two more sites as well. Hydro power is generated from their two hydro sites also in Scotland, and they have trials going on to test wood co-firing at coal fired stations for their Biomass energy.

They have an environmental management system in place to minimise risks to the environment as much as possible. The supplier also offers npower Juice which is a green electricity tariff produced by wind at no extra cost for customers. The company makes a yearly contribution of £10 for every customer that stays with Juice. npower Solar is a service which helps customers set up and start to use solar power instead.

npower have recently become a member of the Percent Club, where they invest over 1% of pre tax profits into the community, and help to give something back. Their Warm Response Line is for vulnerable customers who are struggling to pay their bills, and offers appropriate advice to them. Some of these tips include an examination of their energy bills and payment history, energy advice and access to insulation measures, access to their priority customer help service, a benefits health check, referral to suitable debt advice agencies and payment and tariff advice.

Their scheme called Spreading Warmth offers energy saving advice and helps to provide a better understanding of your energy bills. They can even arrange for your bill to be sent in larger writing as well as setting you up in the customer password scheme upon request if you need someone to visit your home.
